We are committed to returning the party to principles that have proven successful in the past, while looking forward to the future. We work to elect those whose ideas, policies, and values create good jobs and an economy that works for everyone, to provide a quality education from pre-k through college, to protect the civil rights of all people, and to build strong communities across our state where people have access to affordable healthcare, clean air, and drinking water.  We believe in equality, opportunity, and prosperity for all.

- The Strategist -

Derrick Montgomery has been a resident of Cumberland County for over 17 years. A strong advocate for education, he holds four collegiate degrees. He is a dedicated community advocate and pastor. Professionally, he has served North Carolina residents in the areas of mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), and substance abuse. Derrick has been a grassroots volunteer with the North Carolina Democratic Party for 30 years, serving as a door knocker, phone banker, field organizer, 2nd Vice Chair of District 8, regional organizer, regional field director, and more. He is currently serving his second term as Chair of the Cumberland County Democratic Party. His motto is, “Make it count.”

- The Organizer-

Erika L. Burns, was born and raised in Cumberland County. A graduate of E.E. Smith High Senior School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Bryant and Stratton College and a Master’s Degree in Legal Studies from Trinity International Law School. Erika is a wife, a mother, a psalmist, and a community leader. She has served the community as a family ambassador, PTA president, event planner, and a former candidate for Cumberland County Board of Education, District 1 in 2020. Professionally, she is a Cumberland County paralegal at the Department of Social Services, managing juvenile cases of abuse, neglect, and dependency. Erika is serving her second term as First Vice Chair of the Cumberland County Democratic Party.

- The Trainer -

Jamaal Doran is the 2nd Vice of the party. He has been active in Cumberland County for 15 years through community service and politics. Doran previously served as the county 3rd Vice and the President of Cumberland County Young Dems prior to that. Other notable recognitions: recipient of Fayetteville 40 under 40.

Ashlee is the 3rd Vice Chair. She is a Fayetteville transplant by way of the military, calling the city home since early 2022. She previously served on the city council in Clarksville, TN, where she championed policies to uplift marginalized communities. With a background in community service and graphic design, Ashlee uses creative communication to support grassroots advocacy and civic engagement. Wherever she goes, she’s driven by a deep commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society.

- The Note Taker -

Born and raised in the Midwest, Thomas McKinney has lived in Fayetteville for nearly 25 years. He currently works part-time as a high school math tutor. Previously, he worked for several decades in the field of Environmental Science and Engineering. Olive, his energetic young dog, keeps him alert, on his toes, and walking the neighborhood every day.
